The world needs entrepreneurs like you, people with great ideas and a passion to turn those ideas into reality.

But what use is having great ideas if you can’t bring those ideas to life?

Most people have tried to learn to code and failed. Maybe you tried Codecademy, Treehouse, YouTube channels or even more hardcore bootcamp-style training.

Others have thought about learning to code, but then got scared off by the massive time commitment.

If you’re serious about finally learning to code your own apps and websites, read on.

Hi, I’m Will Schmidt, I run Orchid, a development shop in New Zealand where we design and build amazing digital products for both large corporates and early stage startups.

We talk to lots of founders and entrepreneurs every day, and so many of them have great ideas, but aren’t at a stage in life where they can risk spending tens or hundreds of thousands to build their idea.

“I know exactly what I want to create, I just don’t know where to start”

Perhaps that’s you?

You’ve probably got multiple startup ideas, but you don’t want to pay a programmer to build the first version, especially if you’re not sure which idea will eventually take off.

What would your life look like if you had the skillset to build your own apps and websites? Got a new idea...just fire up your code editor and start creating it!

But with so many “learn to code” options out there (and alternatives to learning to code) where do you even start (especially if you’ve already tried and failed to learn to code before)?

Codecademy, Lambda, Udemy, FreeCodeCamp, not to mention countless YouTube channels...and these are just some of the offerings out there!

Some are free, some are cheap and some are super expensive.

Personally, I’ve tried a bunch of them, and nearly all of them are geared towards people looking to switch careers and become a software engineer at a corporate company.

But that’s not you! You don’t want to spend all those hours learning, only to work for someone else and trade hours for money!

You want to finally have the skillset to create apps and websites yourself (without having to pay or beg developers to do it for you).

Why don’t I just find a technical co-founder?

The common solution to this problem is to admit defeat, call yourself ‘the business guy’ (or gal) and look for a technical co-founder to build the app/website for you.

But here’s the thing, a technical co-founder is never going to come and save you.

Unless you’re willing to pay mega bucks, there’s no one out there who’s going to work for free and spend huge amounts of hours building your product in return for 10%, 50% or even 70% of your company!

Why? Because the good programmers already have high-paying jobs, they’re constantly being recruited for even higher paying jobs (often including equity). And in their spare time? They’ve got their own ideas they’d rather work on.

And don’t forget, you’ve got a bunch of different ideas...are you planning on finding a developer to build all of your ideas, or multiple developers to build each one?

What about no-code tools?

Some people initially try learning to code, then decide to just use a simpler alternative with no-code tools like Bubble or Webflow hooking into Zapier.

There’s nothing wrong with that approach, and it can be a good option for creating a prototype, but it’s almost never good enough to bring your product to market, it’s not scalable and in most cases is going to take longer than building a simple React app.

Having used these tools myself, no matter what you’re building, sooner or later you come across the “no-code brick wall”, a point when the no code approach stops working and you need to throw everything out and start from scratch in a code editor.

“The app/website I want to build is too complicated, I could never learn to build it myself.”

Look at the first version of any successful startup and you’ll be staggered by how primitive it was.

A key principle to learning to code is simplifying big problems into smaller ones, and solve them one at a time.

“ At some point, everything’s gonna go south on you and you’re going to say, this is it. This is how I end. Now you can either accept that, or you can get to work. That’s all it is. You just begin. You do the math. You solve one problem and you solve the next one, and then the next. And If you solve enough problems, you get to come home.” Mark Watney, The Martian movie

The path to success begins by taking the next step.

This isn’t the course to take if you want to get a job as a web developer

Yes, you’ll eventually learn the skills to be hired as a web developer but that’s not the goal.

The goal is to give you the superpower to take any idea you have and turn it into a working app or website by yourself.

This is NOT a pre-recorded video course. Watching videos for hours on end, even following along coding every line, will not get you to where you want.

You’ll learn fast! Most of the ‘learn to code’ options out there are trying to teach you a bunch of stuff you don’t need to learn now. The SuperCRUD method is to teach you a programming stack that is very quick to use and develop.

What does this mean?  In 2 to 3 weeks you’ll be comfortably creating React apps from scratch. And by just continuing to read the daily emails and putting the learning into action, in no time at all you’ll be able to create (from start to finish) any CRUD app you dream up (an app that can create, read, update and delete data).

Once you achieve SuperCRUD status, you’ll have everything you need to be able to turn your business ideas into real websites and apps.

Q & A

Is this for absolute beginners?

Yes, and no...

For the time being, we’re assuming subscribers have reasonably good HTML and CSS knowledge, and are comfortable with the fundamentals of JavaScript.

If you are an absolute beginner, we’d recommend these courses as a crash course:

  • HTML & CSS:
  • JavaScript:

What language/framework/stack do you use?

You’ll primarily be learning to code in JavaScript. It is the only programming language that you can write both front-end and back-end code.

How long will it take?

Everyone learns at their own pace, but our goal is for each subscriber releasing their own apps in weeks, and more advanced SaaS-type applications in months.

How much will it cost?

It’s free to join!

We have a few paid options which will be particuarly helpful if you’re a beginner, or if you just want to turbocharge your learning. These are not mandatory though, you can learn SuperCRUD for free!
